ASTM D5528 Test Fixture
Interlaminar Fracture Toughness of Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Matrix Composites
ASTM D5528 is a standard method for testing the fracture toughness of composite materials. It uses a double cantilever beam (DCB) specimen with a pre-inserted delamination initiator. A force is applied to the DCB specimen using either piano hinges or loading blocks attached to one end. As the specimen is opened, the load and delamination length are measured. Both piano hinges and loading blocks are valid options for this test.
- Mode 1 Interlaminar shear strength according to ASTM-D5528-Fig.A1.1 (a) with piano hinges
- Mode 1 Interlaminar Fracture Toughness of Unidirectional Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Matrix Composites according to ASTM-D5528-Fig.A.1.1 (b) with loading blocks
