ASTM D8067 is a standard method for measuring the strength and stiffness of sandwich structures made with composite materials. These structures have a core material, like foam or honeycomb, sandwiched between two outer layers.
The test involves attaching a square sample with notches to a metal frame and pulling the frame in one direction. This causes the sample to shear, or slide sideways. By measuring the force needed to produce a specific amount of sliding, the test determines the material's shear strength and stiffness.
