MIL STD 1312-13 Test Fixture
MIL-STD 1312-13 is a standard for testing the strength of fasteners under shearing forces. It uses a specific fixture with a blade and a fork to apply pressure to the fastener from both sides.
The test involves maintaining a consistent testing speed, which can be challenging due to the dual requirements of stress and load. It's also important to avoid complete breakage of the fastener, so a system for detecting and stopping the test is necessary.
The fixture consists of a hardened steel blade with a hole matching the fastener diameter, a lower fork with corresponding holes, and a top steel holder to secure the blade and fork. The fastener is placed between the blade and the fork, and a compression force is applied to the blade, causing the fastener to shear in two.
