NASM 1312-13 Test Fixture (MIL STD 1312-13)
This test standard outlines the precise methodology and equipment required for conducting double shear tests on fasteners using a half-hole fixture.
This standard provides comprehensive details for executing double shear testing on fasteners. Achieving a consistent testing rate is challenging due to the specified speed being expressed in both stress and load units. Crucially, the test must be halted before complete fastener failure; therefore, a system for detecting breakage and automatically stopping the testing apparatus is vital.
The test setup utilizes a hardened steel blade containing a hole precisely matched to the fastener's diameter. This blade is positioned on a lower fork, which also features corresponding holes. Both the blade and fork are securely held within an upper steel holder to ensure stability. The fastener under evaluation is placed on the lower fork, and a compressive force is applied directly to the top of the blade, resulting in the fastener being sheared simultaneously from both sides.
